where gelli prints and stencils meet

Hi everyone!  It's been a crazy few weeks here and crafting time has been limited, but I wanted to share this quick and fun ATC with you.
A couple of months ago I created a whole stack of gelli prints -- and began a journey creating some art in ATC size.  I still have a stack of prints, albeit it's a tad bit smaller.  So let's start there...
I picked one with a pink, orange and yellow base.  The colors remind me some recent sunrises here and even an occasional sunset when the colors are high in the sky.
Select a stencil.  My stencil is a new digi from Mixed Media Supplies.  I'm so excited to get to share the Alpha stencil.  There's also some numerals in the digi and it's created at ATC size for perfect use on these mini-sized canvases.
I got my eBrush out and a Tombow® marker ( which worked well with the colors in my background.  Place the stencil as desired and spray.  Reposition and spray again

Challenged to use some cardboard for another project, I cut a few hearts and removed a bit of the paper exposing the corrugated layer.  I "painted" a light coat of Gesso on the cardboard with a finger and let it dry.  Mix a little mica with some water and brush onto the dried Gesso for a bit more color and sheen.

Print and color one of the beautiful butterfly digi stamps from MMS.  I used a couple of Tombow markers on the reverse side of the vellum.  Add some Glaze to the front of the digi and let dry.

Once everything is dry, arrange as desired on your background and secure in place.  If desired, add an appropriate word or phrase to your artwork.  Sign, date and frame!

Good Monday Morning!

Today I made for you an early father's day card.

I started with some cardstock and a stencil from the Mixed Media Store. 

I used embossing ink to smudge onto my stencil with cardstock underneath. I removed the stencil and I used brown embossing powder to stick to my image. 

 Then I heated the embossing powder with my heat tool. 

 Then I colored my background with distress inks pink/blue/brown. 

I also used the Red Rubber Stamps found at Mixed Media Supplies Store. 

If you look closely you can see I cut my stamps edges for a more organic finish. 

 I mounted my red rubber stamp onto an acrylic block with double sided tape. Then I randomly stamped across my background. I added some micro flakes and micro beads. 

 I used alcohol markers, acrylic skins, and metallic mica powders to color my image. This image can be found at Mixed Media Supplies Store!

 I used double-sided foam tape to prop up the image.

Spring Wreath

It's my turn today to start the week with some fun and bright flowers made using Mixed Media Supplies Digital Printable Journal papers from the shop. 

You'll need: 
Digital  Printable Journal papers from Mixed Media Supplies
dies*
die cutting machine*
Printer
copy paper
Micron Pen .01
Marker AirBrush*
3/4 " circle paper punch
markers*
Hot glue
Sapphire and Pearl Mica from Mixed Media Supplies

Download and print the journal page from Mixed Media Supplies using regular copy paper.  Using your favorite flower dies, cut an assortment of flowers and layers.  TIP:  Cut multiple layers at a time.  

Remove cuts from the dies, sort according to size.

If desired, add a doodled outline to the "petals" using the micron pen.

Punch a circle in the yellow paper for the stamens of you flower.  Fold in half, cut a small vertical slit in the fold.  On the arched area of the circle, make small cuts to form a fringe.  Unfold, and slide onto the brad,    Make one for each of the flowers that will be open flowers (not buds).

My wreath is a small wreath -- so I chose to use the smaller of the dies and create a small arrangement for the wreath. 

Cut a few leaves.  I used white card stock -- they need a little more body.  Color using the marker airbrush and colors as desired.

Add a spritz or two of pearl and sapphire mica to the edges of the flower petals and buds.  If desired, add a little pearl or gold mica to the leaves.
Secure the flowers and leaves on the wreath using a little hot glue.  Add any additional embellishments and fillers as desired.

Add a ribbon and hanger if desired.

Clay Play #2

I'm excited to share this week's Mixed Media Supplies design team project featuring some Mica from Mixed Media Supplies.  And I've been enjoying getting a little more clay play time in these past couple of weeks.  This heart has a little extra play and was fun to create.

You'll need:
Sculpey Clay III
craft knife
background stamp
bead reamer
heart template
stencil
markers (Tombow)
eBrush
Ranger Distress Ink
mica (Mixed Media Supplies)
wire
ribbon, fiber
Wire cutters, needle nose pliers
Condition the clay.  I used a pasta machine once the clay had been warmed in my hands.  Using the template, cut the heart shape using the craft knife.  Stamp using the background stamp.  If you're going to hang the heart, be sure to add a couple of holes for hanging.

Bake as per manufacturer's instructions.  If the clay is thin, it will still be a little flexible.  Let cool completely before next steps.
Since I know that this heart will not be exposed to direct sun or outside elements, I chose some different ways to add color and a little more texture.

I chose to color using some Tombow markers and sprayed using the eBrush from Craftwell.  The two colors blended nicely.  As you can see, I also used a stencil for the "dots" and some Old Paper distress ink.

After the inks have dried, I took a small brush and applied a bit of Pearl mica from Mixed Media Supplies to add a bit of sparkle.

I also made a few smaller hearts to be used as embellishments.  They are also stamped and baked.  Colored with a Tombow marker and a little mica added to the surface. 
Add a wire hanger, hang the smaller heart with a large ring and add a bit of fiber to the wire for a little more finished look.  If desired you could make your wire a little longer and add some curls and more fibers as desired.

From Coaster to Album Cover

Hi Everyone. It's my turn on the Mixed Media blog again.
This project begins with a 3.5 in cardboard coaster.  These were in my stash, but were purchased at a dollar store a few years ago. (Thanks, Dayna for the stash!)  Who would have thought we would have found so many ways to use them over the years!

You'll need:
coaster (cardboard)
Gesso
digital stamps (Rose from Mixed Media Supplies)
tissue paper
printer
computer, image editing software
stencil
modeling paste
palette knife
gel medium/mod podge (matte)
DecoArt foil glue pen
DecoArt gold foid
shimmer mist (gold)
reinkers (blushing bride, moss green)
water brush, size 2
hole punch, optional

My step to step photos are not usable for this post... my apologies! 

Apply a thin layer of Gesso to the coaster. Set aside and let dry

Open the digital file for the rose and resize as desired.  Print on tissue paper.  I used a laser printer. (If you use an ink jet printer, I suggest that you let the ink dry overnight before applying to the coaster and using the gel medium.)

Tear the roses from the tissue paper... or trim with scissors.  Using the gel medium or Mod Podge, adhere the printed stamp images to the coaster.  Burnish the edges of the paper to the coaster if needed while the medium is wet.  When dry, using a water brush apply a little color with the reinkers. Let dry.

Secure the stencil to the front of the coaster.  Apply a thin layer of modeling paste and let dry.  My paste is homemade and is an Antique White color. (If you're in a hurry, you can use a heat gun to hurry the process)

When dry, "draw" some accent lines with the deco art foil pen.  Let dry according to the manufacturer's directions.  Lay a piece of gold foil on the coaster and burnish.  Pull the foil and then lightly mist the coaster with the shimmer mist.

Add a title or sentiment as desired.  Foil around the edges of the piece if desired. 

Be sure to sign your work. 

Repeat for the back cover if desired.  Here are the photos that did turn out...

At this point, you can punch a couple of holes or leave as is and use another type of binding for the covers and page inserts.

Paper Fabric

Jan here with a fun project featuring the NEW Mixed Media Supplies Digital stamps!  Loved the rose and knew that I had to do something fun with it.  This is part 1 of a 2 part project. 

You'll need:
lightweight muslin
tissue paper
digital stamps  (Mixed Media Supplies)
background stamps (Stampin Up!- retired)
inks (dye)
Soft brush
glue and water
Printer (I used a laser printer)

Stamp tissue paper with desired background stamps.  Choose and size the digital stamps as desired.  Attach tissue paper to some copy paper and run through the printer.  Set stamped images aside.

Lightly dampen your muslin with some water.  Drop a few drops of ink on the muslin and spread the ink using the brush.  You can add additional ink/color if desired.  Let dry.  Iron to set the color.

n a small container, mix equal parts of glue and water.  Using a clean brush, apply a light layer of the glue mixture and add a tissue paper image.. I tore pieces and applied.  Then brush over the tissue paper to seal.  Make sure to get as many of the bubbles if any out and be sure to brush all the edges as well.  Let dry.  Apply additional layer as desired.  You can add additional color is desired.  Let dry.  The material may be a little stiff.  Play with it, crumple it and the more you handle it the softer it becomes.  It is very pliable.
